Chigger Bites Pictures and Their Remedy
Have you ever bitten by something when went to woods or in open fields and got red, itchy bumps on your skin ? just like this in the picture below
If yes then you are having Chigger bites. Chiggers are small larvae of parasites that are commonly called harvest mites. They live in open damp places with a lot of vegetation and plant greenery.
The most surprising thing about chiggers is that they don’t suck blood or feed on flesh they actually suck the fluids in skin cells. In result, the skin cells get hard around the bitten area. They inject their saliva in hair follicle through a tube like structure called stylostome and sucks out the skin cells fluid. This process causes an itchy swollen red bump that causes discomfort for several days.
Though these bites cause irritation only, in North America these chigger bites get infected and lead to a horrible disease called scrub typhus.
Remedy for Chigger Bites
Tight clothes welcome Chiggers to attach to your skin. Before going to outdoors wear loose clothes as the chiggers look for concealed and moist areas for attachment like that under tight clothing such as socks and underwear.
As soon as you find out you are having chigger bites on your skin take a bath with warm water and some antiseptic soap to avoid the swelling and itching. Another commonly known home remedy for chigger bites is to apply nail polish to minimize itching as it reduces the contact of the sore area from the air and prevents itching to get worse.
Doctors prescribe to use antihistamine or anti-allergy creams to treat these chigger bites.Usually these swellings go away in a week or two but in case they prolong you must properly consult a skin specialist on an immediate basis to avoid it to turn into some serious infection.
